Elise and Bagel

When Charlotte Albert, one of my favourite make up artists to work with in Cornwall, got her new little Sausage dog puppy, Bagel, I instantly knew I needed to do some photos of him. Obviously I’m not a pet photographer, but I do adore animals (my dog, Milo, more than anything) so we set about creating an idea for a shoot with a local girl, Elise and Bagel.

The initial idea was Knitwear (feeling inspired by the cooler weather we’re having), but really I just wanted to play around on the day, see how we were all feeling, and create a beautiful series of images.

I chose my brown/cream coloured backdrop to match Bagel’s coat, and the neutral knitwear we had to shoot with. Using nothing but the natural light from my living room windows (I’m blessed with huge windows), I side lit the whole thing. It was a very wet, grey day outside, which definitely added to the moody and neutral tone of the whole shoot.

These images are definitely darker than what I’m used to, but as the years go by, I notice more and more how my inspiration is impacted by my surroundings, and more specifically, the seasons. In the summer, my work goes bright and vibrant. Filled with colour and flowers. In the Winter, all I want to create is darker, moodier, more neutral work. This happens without me even realising, and I can’t say that I mind.

I hope you love this series of images as much as I do.

I guess this means I need to work with more animals on set?!
