Something you may not know about me that I've always wanted to attend a retreat of some kind. My ultimate dream is a week long yoga and coaching retreat in Ibiza... but I think that one will have to wait a bit longer! However, last weekend, Sunday 25th of March, I was lucky enough to spend all day at the an "IgniteLife" retreat at the Bedruthan Steps Hotel in Mawgan Porth.
I've been following one of the co-foudners, Hayley, (aka. @stovesincoves on Instagram) for a long time. In fact, I think most of Cornwall follows Hayley on Instagram thanks to her in depth, very inspiring Instagram Stories that she shares. Hayley is a life coach, and I have actually been lucky enough to have a one off session with her at the start of 2017, which I really enjoyed. I'd also seen Hayley talk about her day retreats quite frequently, and really wanted to attend, but had never been able to go.
So, when Hayley invited me to her latest retreat, I jumped at the chance!
"IgniteLife" retreats are "transformational day retreats for women" and that truly is what they are! I'll be honest, I didn't really know what to expect from the day, other than I knew there would be some kind of yin yoga, and I guessed some kind of coaching exercises.
We were each given a really beautifully designed notebook to use for the day, which was filled with beautiful images by my friend Lizzie Churchill, and all of the exercises for the day. Anna (aka. The Cornish Life) came along with me, so we spent most of the day partnered up together. We found this ended up working, because we know each other so well. After each exercise, Anna and I told each other we'd hold ourselves accountable to what we'd discovered on the day.
In terms of exercises, they were all very different, but each was extremely interesting, and quite revolutionary for me. Exercises included things like "mindfullness," looking at the parts of our lives which have shaped us, and why, and exploring the different parts of our personalities. I won't really go into loads of detail, simply because I don't think that this is something you can explain well in a blog post... you've really just got to experience it!
I learnt a heck of a lot about myself on Sunday. The fascinating part for me, is that it's stuff we all already know about ourselves, but sometimes it buried deep down in us. The IgniteLife retreat uncovered a lot of it for me.
I left the day feeling extremely relaxed, motivated, and happy. As I'd just come out of quite a difficult, low week, the timing really couldn't have been more perfect!
I've kept all of my notes, and Heather and Hayley have encouraged us to continue to explore what we discovered on the day; something I plan on doing.
It's so rare that we, as women especially, give ourselves the time to truly dig deep into ourselves. Most women I meet are always looking out for everyone else first (myself included), so I highly encourage you to book onto a day retreat like this, not only to discover some more facets of yourself, but also to just give yourself some love.
I loved the IgniteLife retreat, and I know that women in Cornwall (and the rest of the world!) would too. So, if it speaks to you, book on! You won't regret it :)
*Note: I was invited to attend the IgniteLife retreat by the founders in exchange for a review, but I stand by every single word in this post!
